A Major UK retailer has a large IBM and Oracle software estate. However easy access to software and user-controlled deployment had encourages over usage culminating in a potential exposure due to under licensing.

In 2018, the UK Retailer engaged IntegrationWorks with a view to align their integration software state with purchased licenses.

The Value:

Most vendor license agreements allow the right to audit whenever they choose. They will often require the customer to prove that they have been using the vendor’s monitoring tool and show reports. IBM use a tool called ILMT and it is down to the customer to install and run this tool.

In 2020 IBM announced that their auditors KPMG are going to audit the customer. Although they soon realized that all integration software was correctly accounted for, the rest of the state was not and an delta of multiple millions was exposed. The customer immediately asked IntegrationWorks to quote for a service to prepare them for audit to defend them from excessive costs.

Work is currently ongoing with the audit expected in 2021 and IntegrationWorks expect to realise savings of between half a million and a million pounds.
